Michael Lippert gave a session on Dalcroze eurhythmics for a choir setting (a theory I talked about in my platform statement). Although I am not a music educator, the sessions still gave me loads of insight on how to be a better musician and performer.īesides learning loads about music and music education advocacy, I also managed to get in some fun time with my friends and colleagues who are music education students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Norman Dea, former president of the California Music Educators Association, spoke about the problems within the CMEA and how he managed to triumph over them and unite all music educators for all music students in the state of California. In addition, I enjoyed hearing stories from David Fullmer, NAfME Western Division president, about how hard the national office (NAfME) works to keep music education in politicians’ agenda on Capitol Hill and the importance of music in our lives. It was such an honor and privilege to attend the conference and speak a little bit about my platform, Music Education Beyond the Mozart Effect, whose mission is to give all youth the access to music education in their school. The conference offered many sessions and clinics and brought together music educators across the country to talk about how to better advocate for music education on the state and national level.
